Gold Plated

Oliver Barrett “Gold Plated Diapers”

Easily one of the most hilarious skits in Saturday Night Live history aired on the night of April 8, 2000. With guest host, the ever iconic Christopher Walken, tackling the challenging role of record producer, Bruce Dickinson... yes, THE Bruce Dickinson... we and the world at large were in for a rollercoaster of laughter. Doing a take-off on VH1's Behind The Music segments, we were treated to the night rock superstars Blue Öyster Cult laid down their most incredible track "(Don't Fear) The Reaper". And, of course, the fractious (and fictional) Gene Frenkel and his cowbell.

You have to see it, and if you're lucky you'll find a half decent stream somewhere online, what this all comes down to is that near the end of the skit, Walken, as Dickinson, says earnestly to the band:

"Baby, before we're done here... ya'll be wearin' gold plated diapers."

So, these 'Gold Plated Diapers' posts will feature older songs, I'm aiming at around ten years old, and of course they'll all be indie rock classics.
